TAM USA® to Donate Course Proceeds to Hospitality Workers

,

To help support the hospitality industry and lessen the burden on bartenders due to recent shutdowns across the country, Techniques of Alcohol Management (TAM®) will begin donating one dollar for every course participant to the United States Bartenders’ Guild (USBG) National Charity Foundation.

“We understand that restaurant and bar workers have been affected especially hard by the government-ordered business closings and capacity reductions,” said TAM® Vice President Scott Ellis. “We are all making sacrifices during these unprecedented time, and TAM wants to offer support to such a vital part of the country’s service-based economy.”

USBG’s mission is to advance the lifelong stability and well-being of service industry professionals through education and charitable activities. In 2017, USBG issued 60 bartender emergency assistance grants, totaling over $103,000. USBG members volunteered more than 1,100 hours through its academia patron program that same year.

“When searching for a charity to donate to, we focused on finding one with clear intentions and objectives,” Ellis said. “We know the money we raise will truly help those in need during this trying time.”

Nationally recognized as a leading program for responsible server training, Techniques of Alcohol Management (TAM)® provides risk management tools that should be used by all licensees to control the day-to-day operations of their business. TAM® training covers a wide variety of information including:

  • False Identification
  • Laws, Rules, and Regulations
  • Clinical Effects of Alcohol
  • Customer Disturbances
  • Alcohol Management

The TAM® program was originally developed in 1983 by the Michigan Licensed Beverage Association (MLBA), and has been continuously updated since, by a coalition of people from the licensed beverage industry. The TAM® program is administered by the National Hospitality Institute (NHI®), a non-profit educational foundation focused on responsible, efficient and effective management in the hospitality industry. Created by sellers of alcohol, NHI® offers programs developed from a unique perspective of industry veterans and leaders.

The MLBA is Michigan’s first and only bar, restaurant and tavern owners’ association.

Founded in 1939, the MLBA gives Michigan licensees the competitive edge they need to survive and maintain a thriving business. From the neighborhood bar, to the full-service hotel, the MLBA understands the problems licensees face – regulation, over taxation and a decreasing market.

The MLBA’s purpose is to improve the business climate for its members by playing a pro-active role with state and local legislative processes, state and local public safety entities, and the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC), as well as implementing innovative and useful membership services.
